So for the first time, we were able to hear the heartbeat of our precious little one. Justin was right outside the door, so he got to hear it too. We definitely weren't expecting a blessing like that at this doctor's appointment, and we're very thankful. :)

A Pleasant Surprise! (Joni)
...And it happened at the doctor's office, too! We went to the OB this morning for a routine checkup - fingerprick hemoglobin test and urine sample. We got good news that both tests were completely normal, but that's not the pleasant surprise I'm referring to in the title of this post. After doing the above tests, the doctor took me back into her exam room (I'd never been back there before!), and Justin had to stay out in her office area. I was a little freaked out at what she might do to me back there, but all she did was make sure my uterus was in the right place, and then she pulled out a little machine that looked like this:except at least 20 years older than the new model in this picture. Did they tell you how fast the heartbeat was? They say that if it is over 150 then it is a girl...Under then it is a boy! I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it is at least interesting to think about!
Nope, this model was too old to give a beat count too... At first I thought the doctor was counting beats and would tell us, but all she said was "It's good." So that's that! No clues yet!
It's weird to me that Justin couldn't come in with you. What's that about?
We were sitting in the doctor's desk office (after waiting for about an hour) and then she told Joni "come with me," and went into the next room, which apparently is for examination. Neither of us knew what was going on, I just knew she wanted to examine her. I just sorta got the picture I was supposed to stay in the office. It was fine. We heard probably 2 minutes worth of static before she found the heartbeat, so it was kinda worrying up until you could make out the beat. It was an old Soviet monitor.
